This site has a history. In the early 20th century it was a vegetable growing operation supplying the mining town of Republic with vegetables and melons. The land was sold to the cattle ranchers and then later changed to irrigated alfalfa. I bought it as an irrigated alfalfa field in 1979 and have farmed it organically from the beginning. I have been Certified Organic with the state of Washington since 1998, and work to incorporate the best techniques from a variety of sustainable agriculture systems including biodynamics, permaculture and organics. Wanting to be able to save my own seeds, I began learning about unique, one-of-a-kind heirlooms. I think the agricultural history of this land contributes to the exceptional flavor of our flavorful, heirloom produce.
