How do I begin buying on Barn2Door?

Simply enter your zip code to view food that is shipped direct or delivered by local farms. If you are a wholesale buyer, you must sign in to view wholesale pricing.

Can I use as a Guest - without registering as a Buyer?

If you are a consumer you can search by your zip code to view and purchase items as a guest. If you are a wholesale buyer you must create a wholesale account in order to view pricing and track orders.

How do I discover what food is available?

Simply enter your zip code to discover all items available to be delivered to you or near you (direct local delivery, pickup, meetup or direct shipping). It there are no farmers currently delivering to your area, you may still see items that are shipped direct from farmers (think Vermont Maple Syrup or avocados).

What if the food that I want to order is not available on Barn2Door?

Just ask! We are your sourcing specialists (free of charge!)! Simply sign in and fill out a sourcing request - a notification will go out to nearby farmers. If there are no nearby farmers to fill your request, we will research nearby farms to see if we can find a farmer to serve you directly.

What if the farmer I want to order is not listed?

Glad you asked! We are in the midst of on-boarding many farms - and may not have had a chance to reach out to your favorite farmer! If you want to let him / her know that online ordering might increase orders (this is actually a proven data point!) - especially from you, feel free to send them a quick note. Then at least they can learn more if they’d like!  

Where can I buy food from Barn2Door?

This is the fun part: anywhere! Wherever you like to plug in! Each farmer offers the same online ordering experience across all channels - so you can buy items on a Farm’s website, a Farm’s mobile app, through their social channels or by clicking on on their digital fresh sheet link sent through email. You can also buy from that farm through the Barn2Door website, mobile app, social or through email. And, you can do it from any device: computer, mobile or tablet.

And super cool? A Farm’s inventory is ‘automagically’ updated in when you make a purchase in any of the channels. This makes life easier for the farmer AND ensures real-time inventory availability and order accuracy.

How do I access Wholesale pricing?

Wholesale pricing is limited to qualified business buyers - namely restaurant and corporate buyers. To access wholesale prices, you must be signed into your wholesale account.

How do I access Flash Sales?

Just check the box! In your account you can manage notifications - make sure the ‘receive Flash Sale notifications box is checked! Farmers can offer Flash Sales anytime - they are only available for 72 hours, include discount pricing of more than 30% off and are first-come, first-serve!

Can I buy Seconds (sometimes referred to as Uglies)?

To purchase Seconds, simply look for a Seconds label on an item! Farmers can choose to add a handful of labels to indicate special pricing (flash sale, bulk discount, weight TBD), OR to give additional information about the food (Kosher, Seconds).

How is food delivered?  Is there a delivery fee?

Every farm is different! Since we built Barn2Door to facilitate direct ordering and sales between farmers and their customers, we made sure Farmers had an easy way to convey how you get your food. Farmers will offer a range of options, depending on their farm and what they sell. You choose from the options they provide: direct delivery, local pickup, to be arranged (directly between farmer and buyer) or shipping.

Farmers may offer:

  1. Direct Delivery to specific zip codes multiple days a week (this is common with farmers selling and delivering direct to chefs);

  2. Pickup locations at specific venues on certain day and times;

  3. Direct Shipping for certain products that can be sent via a postal service or rush delivery (e.g. honey, maple syrup, artisan hot sauce, frozen sustainable salmon); and,

  4. To Be Arranged invitation to coordinate with a Farmer for certain product (e.g. when to pick-up quarter cow at the butcher).

Does Barn2Door possess or manage food delivery?

No. We are the software that facilitates commerce - the farmers handle actual delivery, pickup and / or shipping. We help farmers offer and manage logistic information, including sending reminders to both the farmer and buyer before the delivery or pickup day.

Is there a mark-up on the food?

No. The beauty of software is we help you connect directly with farmers - cutting out the middleman and distributors. Most companies heavily markup food to pay the middlemen, which tends to reduce margins for farmers or increase prices for buyers or both. Farmers pay Barn2Door a monthly subscription to use our platform to manage digital ordering across online channels, online payments, online real-time inventory and customize and streamline customer communications. Farmers set their pricing. There is a processing fee associated with credit cards (2.9% and .30 per transaction) and ACH (1%); there is a 1% convenience fee charged to buyers.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Currently, when customers check out they can choose between credit card, ACH (bank to bank so a ‘wire’ from buyer bank to farmer bank) and paper check.

A farmer can remove the paper check option if they would like. Farmers often prefer ACH as the fee is just 1% (versus Credit Card at 2.9%) and it ensures direct payment (versus checks which are harder to track and even harder to track down).

How is a refund issued if I am dissatisfied?

We have build refund capabilities for Farmers! They can refund a partial or full refund at anytime.

What is the difference between my Farm’s Mobile App and the Barn2Door Mobile App?

Our goal is to make it as easy for you to order direct from your farmer(s) as it is to use Uber. If you know a Farmer with an App, download It! Then you can begin experiencing convenient anytime ordering and quick communications with your farmer. We build custom apps for farmers to ensure their brand - and inventory - is in the palm of your hands.

Separately, and to ensure all farmers can provide digital ordering to their customers (even those without their own App), as part of our simplest offering, we host farmers digital ordering experience on Barn2Door. This provides all farmers with their own Fresh Sheet URL to send to their customers (via email, to share on social and to link to their website). All farmers (who don’t have their own custom app) can be found on the Barn2Door App, where we aggregate their fresh sheets and showcase them by [your] location / geography.
